Sustainability Policy

Atlas Tours is a travel agency based in Amman, Jordan. We provide travel services to individuals and groups within Jordan.

Our vision is to be one of the pioneering companies in our field in the region and to be specialized and constructive of a new idea for tourism in Jordan, we will always search for development in our field by staying in constant contact with our visitors and collecting ideas and suggestions from them during and after their visit. While aiming to preserve and defend the natural and human resources of those communities for future generations (of both tourists and locals) to enjoy.

Our Mission is to support sustainable society and sustainable trade. Provide our travelers with an honest, local experience promoting cultural and environmental immersion, also to minimize all negative effect on natural and social environment. We support all business partners towards more sustainability and create more awareness among our travelers.

Sustainability Management & Legal compliance

We commit to sustainability management, practiced by these following actions:

  • An appointed employee will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing all sustainability-related tasks.
  • We maintain sustainability guidelines and an assessment system to evaluate the environmental and social performance of our key suppliers and partners.
  • A comprehensive sustainability action plan is in place, outlining clear targets, actions, KPIs, assigned responsibilities, and implementation timelines.
  • Documented procedures are established to monitor, measure, and evaluate the progress of our sustainability policy, objectives, and targets.
  • We ensure transparency in our sustainability efforts through public reporting and open communication.
  • All employees are informed about our Sustainability Policy and are committed to its ongoing implementation and continuous improvement.
  • The CSR/Green Team meets regularly to review progress, address challenges, and take corrective measures when necessary.
  • We are committed to promoting responsible tourism, ensuring that the benefits of tourism significantly outweigh any negative impacts, and avoiding the promotion of destinations deemed unsustainable.

We commit to complying with all national legislation, regulations and codes of practice.

  • To prohibit discriminations, regard to recruitment, conditions of employment, access to training and senior positions, or promotion in terms of gender, race, age, disability, ethnicity, religion/beliefs or sexual orientation;
  • To ensure all employees have an equal chance and access to resources and opportunities for personal development through regular training, education;

Environment and community relations

We commit to practice environmental protection and enhance community relations by ensuring the enforcement of following practices.

We commit to this by:

  • Actively reduce the use of disposable and single-use consumer goods.
  • Purchase products in bulk to minimize packaging waste.
  • Set all printers and copiers to default double-sided or other paper-saving modes.
  • Use non-hazardous, non-eutrophic, biodegradable cleaning materials that carry an eco-label when available locally.
  • Use eco-friendly paint for all future office painting and renovations.
  • Switch off lights and equipment when not in use, utilize timers or motion sensors, and enable energy-saving modes wherever possible.
  • Choose low-energy, high-efficiency equipment when purchasing new items, while considering cost and quality.
  • Fully comply with national legislation regarding waste disposal.
  • Implement measures to reduce the use of non-refillable plastic water bottles in the office.
  • Reduce waste associated with printer and copier ink/toner cartridges through refill, reuse, or similar methods whenever feasible.
  • Reduce transport-related environmental impacts by supporting teleworking, video conferencing, remote policies, and other alternatives.
  • Provide regular guidance, training, and information to staff regarding their responsibilities in internal environmental practices.
  • Contribute to the protection of local historical, archaeological, cultural, and spiritually significant sites.
  • Consider the accessibility of new destinations using more sustainable modes of transport when planning and selecting new locations.

Tour leaders, local representatives and guides

We aim at involving as many locals as possible by employing them in the tourism business. We stand for a fair and safe working environment that supports and respects local communities. We commit to this by:

  • Prefer working with local tour leaders, representatives, guides, porters, drivers, cooks, and other staff when their ability matches requirements, and provide training when needed.
  • Ensure that all local partners comply with international, national, and local laws, regulations, industry minimum standards, and any other relevant statutory requirements — applying the most stringent standards where applicable.
  • Ensure that tour guides, hosts, and other contracted employees are appropriately qualified and receive regular training.
  • Ensure that local employees are fully informed about relevant aspects of our sustainability policy and comply with it through newsletters, contract references, email communication, and training sessions.
  • Provide a dedicated sustainable travel module in the training program for local tour guides and hosts, covering key responsible tourism principles, expected roles, and destination-specific sustainability considerations.
  • Ensure that tour leaders, representatives, and guides inform travelers about relevant sustainability topics at the destination, including protection of flora, fauna, cultural heritage, resource use, social norms (e.g., tipping, dress code, photography), and human rights (e.g., prevention of sexual exploitation).

Customer communication and protection

Customer’s welfare and information are very important to us. We ensure clear and constant communication and high protection to our travelers.

Prior to booking, we commit to this by:

  • Make available a company guideline for traveler consultation, which is followed by traveler advisors;
  • Ensure that customer privacy is not compromised;
  • Comply with relevant standards and voluntary codes of conduct in marketing and advertising messages, and not promise more than is delivered;

After booking and during holidays, we commit to this by:

  • Provide Information to consumers about the natural surroundings, local culture and cultural heritage in the holiday destination;
  • Keep a contact person and a telephone number permanently available for emergency situations;

Sustainable Destination:

We consider sustainability aspects in destinations in the selection of new destinations and in the product development process. We intend to provide social and environmental benefits to the communities we visit. We understand the importance of visitor dispersion and of not exceeding the carrying capacity of destinations; therefore, we encourage the promotion of lesser-known areas (with the approval of the local community), to prevent over tourism and its negative impacts”.
